    Welcome to William Monroe Middle School!
    I am excited about working along-side the students, staff, and community at William Monroe Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year. As principal, it is my vision and duty to work in cooperation with my fellow administrators and faculty in order to provide our students with a safe and engaging learning environment. It is my practice to be visible and accessible to our school community, especially for our students during their pivotal middle school years.  The partnership between home and school becomes increasingly more important during the transitional years for students exiting elementary school and preparing for high school and beyond. I invite you to visit our school and to communicate frequently with your child's teachers.  As principal, I remain available to you and your child throughout the school day.

    To the William Monroe Middle School Community;

    It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself to you as the new principal of William Monroe Middle School.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the students, families, and staff at WMMS and look forward to working closely with our greater school community.

    I come to William Monroe Middle School with 17 years of experience in education, 12 of which have been here in Greene County Schools.  As an educator, I have worked in multiple capacities in grades K-8 serving as a general education teacher, instructional coach, intervention specialist, and most recently as assistant principal for the past 4 years at WMMS.  I received my Master’s degree in administration and supervision at the University of Virginia in 2012 and I am currently completing coursework at UVA in a doctoral program focusing on educational leadership.

    The mission of William Monroe Middle School is to empower and inspire all students to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to become creative thinkers and problem solvers, to experience individual and team success, and to become responsible, contributing members of our community. In striving to meet this mission, students at WMMS will be exposed to innovative instructional strategies, utilize a variety of technological devices, and have opportunities to collaborate, problem solve, and develop among a community of learners.

    As school principal, it is my vision and mission to create a safe and nurturing environment in which students are able to develop and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  I appreciate the fact that middle school is a critical period of transition for adolescents.  Therefore, it is a priority for me to be visible and accessible to all school community members, particularly, to students and families.

    William Monroe Middle School has a tremendous faculty and staff focused on providing the best instruction possible for our students.  The faculty and I recognize the importance of having a strong partnership between home and school and we will work continuously to provide open communication with you regarding your child and his/her progress.  I invite you to visit or contact me, your child’s teachers, or our school at any time.  I welcome you to participate in the education of our young citizens and I look forward to working in cooperation with you in the near future.  Please feel free to contact me at any time.  I am honored to serve as your middle school’s principal and thankful to live and work in Greene County, Virginia. Go Dragons!

    In your service;

    Eileen M. Oliver-Eggert
