The Amazon Fire 8 Kids Edition Tablet
Your child has brought home their assigned tablet.
What do you need to know?
The Amazon Fire 8 Kids Edition tablet is managed by Greene County Public Schools. The tablet is password protected. Only we can make changes to the settings on the device.
Tablets were set-up with your child’s safety as our number one priority.
The tablet has 4 profiles for children to use. Each profile is set to the appropriate age range for your kindergartener.
You will see a puppy, kitten, robot, and a unicorn. The puppy and robot have apps that are geared toward boys and the kitten and unicorn for girls. There are apps that will appear on all profiles. Your child can use whichever profile they choose.

Your Fire tablet automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks and wireless hotspots that broadcast their network name. Some networks are open for everyone to join, while others require a password to connect. You can connect your Fire tablet to your home Wi-Fi network, public Wi-Fi networks, and some enterprise private networks.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen, and
- Verify that Airplane Mode is Off
- Tap the Wireless icon.
Tap a network to connect to it. If you see a lock icon, a network password is required. Enter the Wi-Fi network password, and then tap Connect.
Note: If you don't know the password, check with the person who set up the network.
After you connect to a Wi-Fi network, your Fire tablet automatically connects to the network again when it's in range. If more than one network is in range, your Fire tablet automatically connects to the last network used.
To select a child profile:
Swipe down from the top of the screen.
Tap on the icon that is showing to the right of the gear icon. This will open up the box to show you the available profiles that your child can use.
Your child will then chose one of the four available student profiles.
No Wi-Fi at home? Apps, books, and videos that your child may want to use at home can be downloaded at school or where Internet service is available. Once the item is downloaded on the device, your child will have access at home. No Wi-Fi will be necessary.
