YMCA to Provide After School Program for Greene County Students
April 22, 2019
Superintendent Andrea Whitmarsh, the Greene County School Board and Greene County Board of Supervisors are excited to welcome the Piedmont YMCA After School Program to Ruckersville Elementary beginning in the Fall of 2019. “On behalf of the Greene County Board of Supervisors I am very pleased to welcome the YMCA to Greene County! The YMCA will increase opportunities for Greene County children who participate in After-School activities while meeting all applicable regulatory concerns. I am grateful to the School Board and Dr. Whitmarsh for their efforts to assure a continuity of After School Care for those families that depend on this important service”, as stated by Bill Martin, Chairman of the Greene County Board of Supervisors.
The After School Program will be open to students in grades K through 5 and include Ruckersville and Nathanael Greene Primary and Elementary Schools. As the program operates every school day from 3:00-6:30, students will be involved in a wide variety of activities that include art, music, academic support, sports, games, drama, enrichment and other child specific interests. Scott Williams, Piedmont YMCA CEO, looks forward to this partnership. “We are very excited about providing not only high quality after school care to the children of Greene County, but also the opportunity this gives us to provide YMCA programs to the entire community.”
Dr Whitmarsh echoes the sentiments of Mr. Martin by stating, “It is a privilege to welcome the Piedmont YMCA into our community. Our students, as well as members of the community, will benefit from the outstanding quality and multitude of opportunities the YMCA will provide.” Information regarding program details will be distributed to students and families in early May.
