(Stanardsville, VA) Greene County Public Schools is pleased to highlight a new opportunity for students interested in developing their entrepreneurial skills and learning how to establish a small business. William Monroe High School will host the division’s first Teen Maker Market Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 9 a.m.  

The event gives middle and high school students an opportunity to sell their homemade items and give back to a community organization. Organizers say over 20 student-run booths will be featured at the inaugural event. Many of the students participating have already established their business in the Greene County community and are looking forward to showcasing their products to more. 

The event is an extension of activities that have been hosted by William Monroe High School’s librarian, Ms. Leah Talbert. Through monthly “Lunch and Learns,” students have learned how to make various unique, homemade goods and use technology-based platforms to market those products. Ahead of the Makers Market, students are learning how to create online business cards. 

In addition to student craft booths, there will be a table for patrons to create fleece dog or cat toys to donate to the SPCA as well as a "Make and Take - Gnome for the Holidays" ornament table that shoppers can create with an SPCA donation. Students’ registration fees and proceeds from a donated item for the event’s silent auction will also go to The Greene County SCPA.

The Maker Market will take place in the WMHS cafeteria beginning at 9 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m.
